Suggested Scripture Reading For October 20th

I know I don't post these every day, but from time to time. Thought I would this time :-) Do all things without grumbling or disputing; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding fast the word of life, so that in the day of Christ I will have reason to glory because I did not run in vain nor toil in vain. (Phlp.2:14-16) Do not be idolaters, as some of them were; as it is written, "THE PEOPLE SAT DOWN TO EAT AND DRINK, AND STOOD UP TO PLAY." Nor let us act immorally, as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in one day. Nor let us try the Lord, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the serpents. Nor grumble, as some of them did, and were destroyed by the destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (1Cor. ...

"Jack Graham In Disagreement With His Own SBC Baptist Faith & Message" By Alan Kurschner-The Calvinist Gadfly (www.calvinistgadfly.com)

Jack Graham in Disagreement with his own SBC Baptist Faith & Message. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It has been brought to my attention a few times in the past year that the ranting of anti-Calvinist Southern Baptist preachers such as Jack Graham, Adrian Rogers, Paige Patterson, and Johnny Hunt are inconsistent with their very statement of faith, the SBC Baptist Faith & Message. These individuals in the past have railed against the notion that God must first change the sinner’s heart in order to give faith and repentance. This truth that God changes the heart first is simply the Calvinist teaching of God’s monergistic grace. Graham, Rogers, Patterson, and Hunt all disagree with the following Baptist Faith & Message statement on salvation that asserts regeneration precedes faith: Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by...

"Edwards On The Incomparable Riches and Glory of Christ" From Steve Camp's Blog

Edwards on The Incomparable Riches and Glory of Christ UNBELIEVERS CONTEMN THE GLORY AND EXCELLENCY OF CHRIST based on Acts 4:11 "The saints admire the excellency of Christ, and the glorious angels admire it, and every creature in heaven and earth, but only you unbelieving children of men. Consider not only how much the angels set by the glory of Christ, but how much God himself sets by it; for he is the darling of heaven, he was eternally God‚s delight; and because of his glory God hath thought him worthy to be appointed the heir of all things, and hath seen fit to ordain that all men should honor the Son even as they honor the Father. ˜ Is he thus worthy of the infinite esteem and love of God himself? And is he worthy of no esteem from you?" ***************** GOD IS A BEING OF TRANSCENDENT MERCY based on Psalm 108:4 "Consider that the most wonderful act of mercy is already done in giving Christ to die. This is a much more wonderful act of mercy than justifying and pard...

The False Teaching of Harold Camping of Family Radio

I had already heard of Harld Camping's false teaching via Paltalk. But when I went to Maryland, I heard again live through family Radio's local radio station there. Harold Camping and his followers tell all who they can get to listen, that God has forsaken "all" churches without exception because they are all apostate. The do gross eisogesis to Scriptures dealing the "mystery babylon" and "Israel" to try to prove their point, but it just ain't ;-) there. Many of them will also say that if a Christian stays in the church, they will be proving that they are not saved. They themselves try to get around it by calling themselves "fellowships" and not having Pastors, Elder, Deacons etc. Family Radio even has their own hymnal. While I can sympathize with them to a point, because the condition of most professing Christian local churches today, it is unbiblical, false teaching, and something that Harold Camping and his followers will have to a...

"Not Only Our Interests In Worship" By Keith Sherlin

Not Only Our Interests in Worship Doctrinal Thoughts I have now entered into my 11th year of pastoral ministry. What has ten years of shepherding the hearts and lives of people taught me? I have seen that at the root of most conflicts in most families, no matter if it is a church family or only a physical family, is the self-centered ego that says it has to be my way. I see that attitude show up in churches in many ways. Since this devotion is on worship I want to apply how self-centeredness looks in worship. One can visit the bookstore and find all kinds of materials on worship for the church. Sad to say it often does not provide us with any better answers than what is already in the church. By that I mean if a person is within a self-centered church then even if he is a theologian with numerous degrees it will bleed over into the writings that the theologian will produce. Worship is a prime example of this. Some argue that one single style is the only style that God will honor. How s...

"What Do You Want In A Church" By Ray Rhodes

What Do You Want in a Church? Need a new computer? Why settle for what the retailer has on the shelf? Today you can "build" your computer. Computer stores offer the option of designing the computer that you desire. You can choose the size of the hard-drive, the amount of memory, the operating system, and almost anything else. While you choose your selections the online calculator calculates your cost. If you choose to buy the computer then it’s as simple as typing in your credit-card number and clicking the send button. If you decide that you do not want the computer then you simply walk away. The philosophy is an old one "the customer is king." (Really the retailer is king but the way that the retailer gets to be king is making the customer feel like he is king). Customer driven marketing is the norm in the world of business. But sadly the professing Christian church often doesn't seem much different. Some churches follow the same customer driven mentality that...
