The last few days I have been talking to man from south Florida whose daughters and wife used to go to my last church down there. I have known his oldest daughter who is now 17, since she was 12. The father just found out a few days ago that his 17 yr. old daughter has been having sex for the last 2 years with a 24 year old man that lives across the street. The 17 yr. old told her oldest sister, and the oldest daughter told the parents. The youngest sister evidently saw evidence of it once, and the 17 yr. old admitted it to the father. The family has been riddled with problems for years. One sad thing is that I'm not completely surprised that this happened with the 17 yr. old daughter. There have been signs for several years now that gave me concern that things could lead to this, and this is not the first time I have seen sexual sin happen as a result of certain outward actions of teenagers and/or the parents not taking a more pro-active role in the children's lives when it comes to what they watch, what they can listen to, what they can wear, whether they can date and have boyfriend (if they are a girl) or girlfriend (if they are a boy), whether or not they go to a Christian School or are Homeschooled instead of a public school, etc.
Folks, we know that the word of God says that He elected a remnant of undeserving and unworthy sinners to give to His Son and save, but we are talking about means and evidence. 2Cor. 13:5 says we are examine and test ourselves to see if we are in the faith. Phlp. 2:12 tells us that we are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. 2Pet. 1:10 tells us that we are to be more diligent about making certain His choosing and calling us, for as long as we practice moral excellence, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness,
brotherly kindness, love, we will never stumble, because for if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they render you neither useless nor unfruitful in the true knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he who lacks these qualities is blind or short-sighted, having forgotten his purification from his former sins (2Pet. 1:5-9). I love the Lord. I love God's people. I love young people. We need to wake up and stop using the doctrines of sovereign grace, concern about legalism, and love for ther world and the things in it, as an excuse to not deal with issues facing our young people as well as adults. If we love the Lord, and our children, we will deal with these tough issues. We must... for the glory of God.
The father is planning to press charges on the man. In Florida, he could get 15 years in Prison. Please pray with me for this family and situation in Florida. Thank you...
